God help me the first person I saw for Rollin Hand was Topher Grace but scratch that.Then I see the late Bill Bixby but that was his Magician TV series.

Willy would likely need to be some wrestler I suppose with an IQ to match. If it was the 70s or 80s I'd say Stallone. Heck, why not Rourke.

Ethan Hunt was created so they could turn M:I into an American James Bond, which is the exact opposite of what the show was. If would be as if they turned the Bond series into the "Bond and M Show".

They could have found a better way to pass the baton on to Hunt. The first film is actually a nice little thriller (even if the train sequence is OTT), but it ruined the Jim Phelps character. Even if Phelps died at the end of the film, he should have been a hero.

A better version of the film would have Phelps realising that there was a mole in his team. Knowing that each of his team members was being killed off, he stages his own death to lure Hunt away from a death trap. Hunt survives, leading the IMF to believe he is the mole, and the actual mole to believe they got away with it, but they have to worry about Hunt, unaware that Phelps is alive. Knowing that Hunt would try to clear his own name, the rest of the film would revolve around Phelps carrying out his own investigation and feeding information back to Hunt and the IMF; Phelps essentially uses Hunt to do things that he himself cannot. Phelps could commit treason at the end of the film, but only to expose the identity of the actual mole, and Hunt and the IMF would keep it quiet. This would preserve Phelps' reputation, and hand the franchise over to Cruise.
